How Much Storage Do You Actually Need?

Share

Storage is one of the most confusing specs to shop for — pay too little attention and you'll be deleting photos within months; pay too much and you're wasting money on space you'll never use.

Here's a quick guide based on how you use your device:

Light users (calls, messaging, social media, few photos): 64GB-128GB is usually enough.

Average users (lots of photos/videos, several apps, some downloaded music or shows): 128GB-256GB is the sweet spot for most people.

Heavy users (mobile gaming, 4K video recording, large app libraries, offline media): 256GB or more is worth the investment.

Remember that cloud storage (like iCloud or Google Photos) can supplement your device storage, but relying on it entirely requires a good, consistent internet connection. If you're often offline or have limited data, more onboard storage is the safer bet.

Our advice: buy one storage tier above what you think you need. Storage is the hardest spec to upgrade later, and devices tend to accumulate more data over time than expected.
