How to Extend Your Phone's Battery Lifespan

Share

Battery health is one of the biggest factors in how long a smartphone stays useful — and it's largely determined by daily charging habits.

Avoid charging to 100% every time. Lithium-ion batteries last longer when kept between 20% and 80% charge. Many modern phones have an 'optimized charging' feature that limits charge to 80% until just before you normally wake up — turn this on if available.

Don't let your battery drain to 0% regularly. Deep discharges put extra strain on the battery. Try to charge before it drops below 20%.

Avoid extreme heat. Leaving your phone in direct sunlight, a hot car, or under a pillow while charging accelerates battery degradation faster than almost anything else.

Use the original or a certified charger. Cheap, uncertified chargers can deliver inconsistent power that harms battery health over time.

Remove thick cases while charging if your phone tends to heat up, to help dissipate heat more effectively.

Following these habits can add real years to your battery's usable life, keeping your phone lasting a full day on a charge for much longer.
