7 Things to Check Before Buying a UK Used Phone in Nigeria

Buying a UK used phone in Nigeria is the smartest way to get a flagship for a fair price — but only if you know what to check. A clean-looking phone with a swapped screen or a worn battery is not a deal, it is a future problem. Here are the seven things to check before you pay.

1. Battery health: On iPhone, go to Settings → Battery → Battery Health and look at the Maximum Capacity percentage. Above 85% is a good buy; below 80%, negotiate the price or walk away. On Android, use the Samsung Members diagnostics, or dial *#*#4636#*#* to open the testing menu. If the percentage drops fast while you are just browsing, the battery is weak.

2. Screen originality: Look at the screen at an angle. An original screen has consistent colour and brightness edge to edge. A replaced screen often looks slightly washed, or has a faint line at the bottom. Ask the seller straight: has the screen ever been changed?

3. True Tone and Face ID: If True Tone is off and will not turn on, or Face ID is not set up, the screen may be non-original. Both should work on a genuine iPhone.

4. Charging port: Plug in a cable and wiggle it gently. A loose port means future repairs. Fast charging should work without the phone getting unusually hot.

5. Camera lenses: Open the camera, cover each lens one at a time, and switch modes. Every lens should produce a clear image with no dark spots or autofocus hunting.

6. Speakers and microphone: Make a test call, play a video, and record a voice note. Distortion or low volume means a damaged speaker grille.

7. IMEI and iCloud: Dial *#06# to confirm the IMEI matches the box. On iPhone, check that Activation Lock and Find My are off. If a seller refuses to let you check any of these, that is your answer — walk away.
